Rutgers, Indiana Up Next for Women's Tennis Team
February 18, 2019 | Women's Tennis
It'll be a Big Ten week for the 49th-ranked Princeton women's tennis team as the Tigers host Rutgers Wednesday and travel to Indiana Saturday.
Princeton is 5-3 and coming off an ECAC Championship tournament that saw the Tigers get past Cornell 5-0 and Brown 4-1 before a 4-1 loss to Columbia in the final, all held at Yale.
Wednesday's match in Jadwin Gym, which has free admission, is a 5 p.m. start, and Saturday's match at Indiana is a noon start.
The teams are the second and third of four Big Ten opponents for Princeton this season. The Tigers opened with a 4-2 win over Michigan State in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at North Carolina on Jan. 26 and will travel to Maryland on March 2.
Rutgers is by far Princeton's most-played non-league opponent all-time, with the Tigers holding a 39-2 edge in the series. The teams have played every year since 1981 and Princeton has won annually since 1997, a 22-match win streak.
Princeton is 2-3 all-time against Indiana, but only one of those matches has come during any of the current players' careers, as Princeton won 5-2 last year in Jadwin Gym.
Rutgers is 3-1 and will be playing back-to-back Ivy League teams after a 4-3 win over Brown last Saturday. Indiana is 6-4 and will look to bounce back from being swept in a swing through SEC country at Tennessee and Kentucky last weekend.
Following the matches, Princeton will head for a trip to Maryland next weekend, facing Navy Friday and Maryland Saturday in the team's last matches before the spring break trip to Florida.
