Men's Tennis Team Opens Blue Gray with Loss to Mississippi
February 22, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Wins from 125th-ranked Karl Poling on court three and Davey Roberts on court six, both in straight sets, gave the Tigers their points.
"We had a good opportunity against Ole Miss but unfortunately made some errors at key times that cost us," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We had momentum early in doubles and then again early in singles after winning four first sets. Our guys are learning and we'll start to convert these chances. it's not an easy assignment to compete outdoors with one day of practice under our belts but our team embraced that challenge."
Princeton moved on to begin the second match of the tournament, against Fresno State, with doubles play before singles begins Saturday's play. Princeton will take a 1-0 lead into the singles matches after winning two of three in doubles to cap Friday's play.
Live results of the Fresno State match are available here. Princeton will continue play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery with the conclusion of the Fresno State match before the final match of the trip, against either Auburn or Rice, begins.
"I was pleased with the way we bounced back an hour later to capture the doubles point against Fresno State," Pate said. "We had great energy there and that helped us get a key point heading into tomorrow's singles when play resumes."
