February 23, 2019 | Men's Tennis
The Princeton men's tennis team concluded its play Saturday at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. with a 4-1 win over Fresno State and a 4-1 win over Rice.
"We're pleased to register two quality wins today and go two for three at the tournament," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We improved each match and finished strong. Our guys demonstrated tremendous energy, chemistry and fight. We had challenges from both Fresno and Rice but we were able to absorb challenges to get both wins. We'll look forward to getting some rest and getting back to work for Wisconsin Friday night at Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, N.J."
Against Fresno State, Princeton claimed the doubles point during Friday's play and then took four of the first five singles matches to finish once Saturday's play began. Ryan Seggerman and Bill Duo were winners in both doubles and singles for the Tigers.
Against Rice, Princeton again won the doubles point and got singles wins from Karl Poling, Justin Barki and Davey Roberts to reach the clincher. Damian Rodriguez (photo below) earned the tournament officials' award for sportsmanship.
The Tigers' next five matches will all be in New Jersey, with a Friday trip to the Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, N.J., before a Sunday doubleheader against St. John's and NJIT. The Tigers will host Buffalo and Bryant the following Saturday, Mar. 9.
