Véronneau Scores Twice at Princeton Beats Yale, 3-2
March 01, 2019 | Men's Ice Hockey
Senior All-American Max Véronneau scored twice including the game-winning goal with 1:04 remaining to lift Princeton to a 3-2 win over Yale at Ingalls Rink on Friday night. After a 4-1 game at Hobey Baker Rink last month, the Tigers earn the season sweep over the Bulldogs, for the first time since 2007-08.
The Princeton power play converted on its first opportunity of the night as Véronneau scored with help from Jake Paganelli and Josh Teves.
The Tigers thought they had a two-goal lead a few minutes later after a Jeremy Germain shots went in, but it was waved off as Princeton took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Yale came out hungry in the second period, was able to tie the game and finished with 15 shots on goal to Princeton's four. Freshman goaltender Jeremie Forget stopped 14 shots that period and earned his first career win with 30 total saves.
Germain was able to get his point back in the third when he stripped a Yale defender of the puck and spun it to Paganelli. Paganelli ripped a shot past his defender and goaltender Corbin Kaczperski to regain the Tigers' lead, 2-1.
Yale was able to knot it up at 2-2 at 3:03 after Josh Teves was called for interference and the Bulldogs were able to score on the power-play without Princeton's top defenseman.
With 1:04 remaining Véronneau took advantage of a quick transition, getting the puck from Mark Paolini and racing down the right wing and shooting the game winner past the glove of Kaczperski.
Princeton (9-16-3, 7-12-2) takes on Brown tomorrow in the regular-season finale. Game time is at 7 p.m., at Meehan Auditorium.
