Mimi Lin Does It Again, Nails Final Dive To Qualify For 2019 NCAA Championships
March 12, 2019 | Women's Swimming and Diving
On Saturday night of the 2019 Ivy Championships, junior diver Mimi Lin stood in second place of the 3-meter final entering her last dive, one she would hit in near-perfect fashion to rally for her first career Ivy League title. She matched that clutch performance on Tuesday at the Zone A Diving Championships, as she scored a 48.75 on her most difficult dive to place sixth in the preliminary event and qualify for the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Lin, who missed her first two seasons due to injury, will complete a memorable junior season next weekend at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, site of the 2019 Championships. This is the second straight year a Princeton diver has made NCAAs; Sine Scribbick, the 2019 Ivy League champion on the 1-meter board, competed in the NCAA 3-meter event to end her freshman season.
Lin, who was the High Point Diver of the Ivy League Championships, needed to post a high score on her final dive (a Back 1 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Free), and she did it with one of three dives that scored over 46 points. She also had a 47.15 in the third round (Back 1 1/2 Somersault Pike) and a 46.80 in the first round (Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike).
A trio of her diving teammates will take one more chance at NCAA qualification on Wednesday, as Carolyn MacFarlane, Charlie Minns and Colten Young will each compete on the platform. Both Minns and Young competed at the NCAA Championships last year and would love nothing more than a return trip, while MacFarlane is looking to extend her Tiger career with a first trip to NCAAs.
