Brown Rallies to Upset Princeton, 12-11
March 23, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
As the Brown women's lacrosse team celebrated on Sherrerd Field, that seven-goal Princeton lead seemed like a long time ago.
Â
After allowing nine goals in less than 12 minutes to start the game, Brown allowed just two the rest of the way to take a stunning 12-11 win over Princeton Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Tigers had led 9-2 with 18:42 left in the first half and seemed in control before the game took a stunning turn. Brown would score the game's next 10 goals, taking a 10-9 lead at halftime and the building it out to 12-9 with 12:26 to go and then held off a furious late charge by the Tigers.
Â
In all Princeton would go 25:06 between goals after that nine-goal burst to start the game, finally ending that 10-0 run with a Kyla Sears free-position goal with 11:36 go play. Sears added another free-position goal 1:14 later, but neither team would score for the final 10:42.
Â
Princeton did have two more free-position opportunities in the last two minutes but couldn't convert either. The Bears were able to run out all but the final 10 seconds after the last one, and Princeton couldn't get a shot off after causing a final turnover.
Â
Elizabeth George had two goals and four assists for Princeton, and her second goal was the 100th of her career. Sears finished with four goals, and Tess D'Orsi had a three-goal, two-assist day.
Â
Princeton, now 5-2 and 1-1 in the Ivy League, plays at Maryland Wednesday.Â
