Tigers Split Sunday with Yale, Win Series
March 24, 2019 | Softball
Ali Blanchard tossed a complete-game shutout and Allie Reynolds nearly did the same as the Tigers split Sunday's doubleheader with Yale, taking the series.
Princeton beat Yale 2-0 in Sunday's first game at the Class of 1895 Field, using two base hits and two walks, including a bases-loaded walk to Haley Hoffman, to score in the first and a leadoff double from Blanchard and two sacrifices, last from Kaitlyn Waslawski, to score in the second.
Meanwhile, Blanchard stranded four Yale runners on the bases and saw two more erased on the basepaths, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out seven.Â
In game two, Princeton made a first-inning run stand up through the first six Yale at-bats before the Bulldogs struck for four runs in the seventh in a 4-1 Yale win.
That first-inning Princeton run came courtesy of singles from Megan Donahey and Kaylee Grant followed by an Allison Harvey ground ball. Over the middle five innings, both teams saw chances slip, with Princeton leaving four runners on base and having two more erased on the basepaths, and Yale four on base with one snuffed out along the way over the first six innings.Â
Grant finished 3 for 3 in the second game to go 6 for 8 for the weekend series.Â
The seventh inning, however, saw Yale use five singles and two sacrifices to get four runs to take the lead, and Princeton went in order in the seventh.
The Tigers will host Columbia Saturday for two and Sunday for one at '95 Field as the Ivy season continues.
