Record-Setting Ivy Champion Raunak Khosla Named Suburban Transit Athlete Of The Week
March 04, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Raunak Khosla closed his Ivy League debut season in dramatic fashion last weekend, as he won both the 200 IM and 200 fly in Princeton record-setting times, and he added a runner-up finish in the 400 IM. Those efforts helped Princeton place second in the team championship race, and it helped Khosla claim Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week honors.
Last Thursday, Khosla broke the Princeton record in the 200 IM two times — once over former Ivy champ Teo D'Alessandro, and once over his own prelim time — and upset two-time reigning champion Mark Andrew of Penn to win the Ivy League title in the event in an Ivy championship meet-record time of 1:42.80.
Two days later, Khosla was back at it in the 200 fly. The Princeton freshman broke the record of assistant coach Doug Lennox '09 during his thrilling Saturday night win. Harvard freshman Jacob Johnson led the race after 150, but Khosla found a level nobody could match and won the race in 1:42.05, more than half a second faster than Princeton swimmer in history.
