In Tigers' Ivy Road Opener, Cornell Defeats Princeton, 4-1
April 14, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Will Peters had a win at fifth singles and he and Karl Poling defeated their Cornell opponents at third doubles, but the 50th-ranked Princeton men's tennis team fell at Cornell Sunday, 4-1.
"Credit to Cornell, they played a complete match," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We needed a greater sense of urgency on the road today. It's never easy against a talented and dangerous team in the league at their place. We needed a better performance in doubles to get momentum but we didn't execute as well as we have been. Despite that, we had some good looks in singles and needed a match to turn. We'll get back to work and expect our very best effort at Brown and Yale next weekend."
Once the Big Red wrapped up the doubles point with a win on court one, Cornell went on to take three of the first four singles matches off court to clinch the team win.
The match was Princeton's first on the road in the Ivy after opening the league season with four straight at home. The Tigers will continue the road swing with a visit to Brown and Yale next weekend to close the regular season.
