Sears Passes 100-Goal Mark As Tigers Roll Past Yale, Clinch ILT Berth

If the Princeton women's lacrosse team had an emotional hangover after its heart-stopping win over Penn Wednesday night, it was long gone after three days.
Princeton scored the first eight goals of the game and rolled past Yale 19-4 Saturday afternoon in New Haven. The Tigers clinched a spot in the upcoming Ivy League tournament, and they will play at Cornell to end the regular season next Saturday knowing that a win means no worse than a share of a sixth-straight Ivy title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
The win came three days after Princeton's 13-11 win over Penn on Franklin Field, a victory that pushed Princeton to its physical and mental limits after the Tigers had to survive being two players down in the final five minutes and had to score the game-winner while still one player down.
Kyla Sears led Princeton with six goals and an assist and passed the 100-goal mark for her career in her 33rd career game. The sophomore now has 104 goals and 46 assists for 150 career points.
"Naturally I was worried coming into this game," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "It's never easy to play again that quickly after such a tough game, and we had to get on the bus and come up to Yale without much time to prepare. I was very pleased with the energy from the start. This was a huge hurdle for us, and now we know what is in front of us for next week, which will be another tough challenge."
Princeton is now 5-1 in the Ivy League and tied for first with Dartmouth, who defeated Cornell 15-8 Saturday in a matchup of one-loss teams. Dartmouth plays at Yale next Saturday.
As for the Princeton-Yale game, Sears and Tess D'Orsi scored twice each in that opening 8-0 run, including a Sears' goal 12:35 in - her second in the run - that made it 5-0 and gaver her 100.
"I'm really proud of Kyla," Sailer said. "Everyone knows she's an amazing goal-scorer, and getting to 100 goals is a great accomplishment, especially as a sophomore. But what's best is how she's worked really hard to improve her all-around game. She's become a great feeder as well, and she's also a terror on the ride."
Princeton led 14-2 at halftime, and every healthy Tiger played.
D'Orsi finished with four goals and two assists, while Elizabeth George had two goals and three assists for a five-point day. Freshman Lillian Stout had her first career multi-goal game with two.
Princeton outshot the Bulldogs 31-14.
