Pate Named to ITA Board of Directors

Billy Pate, who has guided the Princeton men's tennis team for the past seven seasons and is already the program's fourth all-time winningest coach, has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Board of Directors, the ITA announced.
Pate will be one of seven ITA Member Coaches on the board, along with two ITA Leadership positions on the board, two Athletic Director positions, and eight outside professionals in the world of business, sports or media. One of those outside professionals is William Dutton '76, a two-year Tiger captain, a 1975 winner of the team's George Myers Church Tennis Trophy, given to the player who has done the most to advance the interests of tennis at Princeton, and a 1973 winner of the team's Richard Swinnerton Trophy, given to the team's top freshman. Dutton was also a first-team All-Ivy doubles honoree in 1973 and 1976.
After coaching Princeton to its second 20-win season in program history, Pate stands fourth among the program's all-time coaches with 114 wins, 19 behind predecessor Glenn Michibata (135), and with John Conroy (259) and former ITA Executive Director David Benjamin (339), both of whom coached Princeton for a quarter-century, as the program's all-time and second-winningest coaches. Princeton has enjoyed a winning season overall every year under Pate, including finishing with an ITA ranking of 35 and gaining an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament in 2015, and has finished with a winning season in the annually challenging Ivy League in five of Pate's seven years.
Pate and his fellow six new board members will begin their terms July 1.
