Men's Golf Team Heads for Final Round at NCAA Athens Regional
May 14, 2019 | Men's Golf
The 13 teams at the NCAA Regional in Athens, Ga., will head into Wednesday's final round with much still to be decided in terms of advancement to the NCAA Championships later in May.
The top five teams in the field will move on, and host Georgia (-4), Duke (-3), Vanderbilt (+2) and Liberty (+14) hold the top four spots. Four teams are tied for the fifth spot at +17, including Tennessee, SMU, Memphis and Nevada.
The top player not on one of the five advancing teams will also move on, and at the end of day two, depending on which of the tied teams were to grab the fifth team spot, that individual would either be Nevada's Stephen Osborne at -3 or Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent at -2. Georgia teammates Spencer Ralston and Davis Thompson are in the lead for regional individual champ at -4, one stroke ahead of Osborne and two Vanderbilt players, John Augenstein and Will Gordon.
As he was at the end of 18 holes, Jake Mayer is the top Tiger, now tied for 34th at +6. As a team, Princeton stands 13th at +48.
