Princeton Takes On St. John's This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers will take on the St. John's Red Storm in a three-game series this weekend (May 4-5).
The two battle in a doubleheader at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens on Saturday before one contest at Clarke Field on Sunday. The doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. while the game at Princeton gets underway at 1 p.m. St. John's leads the all-time series, 24-18. These two last met with in 2017 with the Tigers dropping the then-No. 11 Red Storm, 4-2.
Princeton has played its best baseball of late, posting seven wins in its last nine games. In that stretch, the Tigers are hitting .273 as a team, highlighted by Taylor Beckett's outstanding play. The sophomore infielder has contributed a .389/.436/.500 slash line with seven RBI. Max West (.333), Ramzi Haddad (.314) and Jake Boone (.308) have also hit over .300 during this streak. Reece Rabin (0.82 ERA), Ryan Smith (1.59 ERA) and Andrew Gnazzo (3.00 ERA) have added two wins each from the pitching staff.
West has been Princeton's best hitter overall this season at .324. The senior catcher has raised his batting average in each campaign. Boone has had a breakout sophomore year raising his average (.308), on-base percentage (.341) and slugging percentage (.385) by over 130 points from 2018. Princeton has eight players with at least 10 RBI with David Harding leading the way with 22.
Smith has produced the best ERA for the Tigers among the starters (3.38) in 10 appearances. He threw his first career complete game last Saturday vs. Brown. He's struck out 61 in 61 1/3 innings. James Proctor is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings in 46 frames this season while Gnazzo has punched out 53 in 58 stanzas.
St. John's is 24-18 overall this season, picking up victories over Western Carolina, University of San Diego, No. 24 UC Irvine, Kansas, Marist, Hofstra, Saint Louis, Columbia, Butler, Albany, LIU Brooklyn, Xavier, Villanova, Stony Brook and Iona. Mike Antico has been the best player for the Red Storm with a .956 OPS. He's hitting .331, slugging .514, adding 22 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
