Poling Competes in ITF Hall of Fame Championship Qualifier

Princeton rising sophomore and reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year Karl Poling took on a tough challenge in competing Sunday for a spot in the ITF Hall of Fame Championship in Newport, R.I., falling 6-1, 6-4 to Grand Slam veteran Viktor Troicki of Serbia.
Poling won four matches over a three-day span in mid-June in Newport to make the qualifying draw for the grass-court event. Troicki, the sixth seed in the 16-player qualifiying draw, advanced to play one more match later Sunday for one of the four qualifier spots in the event's main draw. Troicki is a two-time Olympian from Serbia who has played in the main draw of all four Grand Slam events, reaching the fourth round in the French Open three times and at Wimbledon twice while also making multiple third-round trips at both the Australian Open and U.S. Open.
John Isner, 34, a Wimbledon semifinalist a year ago, is the top seed in the main draw and is the top-ranked American in the world, standing 12th in the ATP rankings.
