Young Helping Stockton Youth Through PVCIS

PRINCETON, N.J. – Neenah Young has been fortune enough to intern for the Reinvent Stockton Foundation through Princeton Internships in Civic Service (PVCIS) this summer.

The mission of the foundation, started by Stockton, Calif., mayor Michael Tubbs, is to expand opportunity and build hope by attracting resources into Stockton and investing in the city's people.

"I've enjoyed learning about the many facets of the foundation," said Young. "This internship is a valuable learning experience for me as it broadened my horizons. I'm very grateful to be a part of an incredible and supportive team. Working with such bright, dedicated, and creative people was much a part of the experience as the internship itself and I loved both aspects!"

Young assisted in the program's Stockton Scholars program which focuses on education policy and provides high school students of the Stockton Unified School District with assistance and opportunities for pursuing higher education.

One of Young's individual projects was to create 10 lesson plans that were 30-45-minute workshops for high schoolers and later given to teachers in the Unified School District. Some of the topics included research on filling out the college application, college visits, finding your major and FAFSA.

Other things that the Tiger did with the foundation include making a marketing toolkit for high schoolers and conducting three Summer Series Ambassador Workshops. The workshop involved planning a lesson and developing an activity that gave students the opportunity to practice the concept. Topics include paying for college, resumes and branding.
