Women’s Tennis to Open Spring Season at ITA Kick-Off Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's tennis team will open its spring season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend in Seattle, Washington.
The Tigers will first take on the No. 17 University of Washington on Saturday, January 25 at 5:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. ET then either the No. 11 University of Southern California or the University of Kentucky on Sunday, January 26 at a time to be determined.
Tiger Notes
After a successful fall, the Tigers received votes in the ITA team poll on Wednesday, January 8.
Three Tigers were included in the singles rankings; sophomore Brianna Shvets at No. 24, freshman Zoe Howard at No. 55 and freshman Daria Frayman at No. 66. None of the three were included in the preseason singles rankings announced on Tuesday, September 17, although Frayman was tabbed at No. 9 in the freshmen/newcomer rankings.
In the doubles rankings, Frayman and sophomore Grace Joyce were ranked No. 19 after not being ranked in the preseason.
In 2018-19 Princeton finished with a 19-5 overall record, going a perfect 7-0 for the second-straight season on route to its fifth Ivy League title in six years. The Tigers overcame No. 27 Northwestern University 4-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round.
Scouting No. 17 Washington
Two Huskies were featured in the final ITA singles rankings of the fall; Katarina Kopcalic at No. 88 and Vanessa Wong at No. 102.
In 2018-19 Washington finished with a 21-5 record and an 8-2 record in Pac-12 play. The Huskies and Tigers are also not strangers, as they met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. On that day Washington came out on top 4-0 and advanced to the third round of the tournament.
Scouting No. 11 USC
USC has three nationally-ranked individual and one nationally-ranked doubles team. Angela Kulikov is ranked No. 60, Sydney Van Alphen No. 68 and Danielle Wilson No. 70 while in doubles the team of Kulikov and Wilson checked in at No. 29.
The Trojans ended 2018-19 with a 20-8 overall record and 7-3 record in Pac-12 play, advancing to the round of at the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting Kentucky
The Wildcats have one nationally-ranked individual and one nationally-ranked doubles team, with Lesedi Jacobs checking in at No. 59 in singles and the duo of Jacobs and Akvile Paražinskaite is ranked No. 21 in doubles.
Kentucky finished with a 19-9 overall record in 2018-19 and a 7-6 record in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. The Wildcats downed DePaul University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, then fell to the University of Michigan in the second round.
