Women’s Tennis Outlasts No. 17 Washington, 4-3

SEATTLE – Needing to win at the No. 5 singles spot in order to secure the victory over the No. 17 University of Washington in the opening round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend, junior Stephanie Schrage delivered a clutch performance for the ages at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center as she clinched the match for the Princeton University women's tennis team and helped the Tigers outlast the Huskies, 4-3.
Doubles
Princeton started off on the right foot by winning the doubles point and giving itself the advantage heading into singles play. At No. 2 junior Clare McKee and freshman Zoe Howard overcame Katarina Kopcalic and Sedona Gallagher 6-3, while at the No. 3 spot the Tigers also earned a 6-3 win after junior Nathalie Rodilosso and Brianna Shvets defeated Zoey Weil and Nika Zupancic.
Singles
While the Huskies were able to pick up victories at the No. 1 and the No. 4 singles positions, McKee was able to defeat Weil in a three-set battle 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. Washington was able to bounce back and win at No. 2 singles and put itself in an advantageous position with only two singles matches still in play.
Despite dropping the first set at the No. 3 position, No. 55 Howard prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 over No. 88 Kopcalic. Needing to win for the Tigers to win the match at No. 5 was Schrage, who would also lose the first set but bounce back to defeat Zupancic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and clinch the the match for the Tigers.
