January 26, 2020 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – For the second day in a row the Princeton University women's tennis team delivered a clutch performance for the ages against a top-20 opponent as it earned a spot at the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Indoor National Championships after overcoming the No. 11 University of Southern California in a 4-3 thriller Sunday afternoon inside the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Yesterday it was Stephanie Schrage who needed to clinch the match; today it was Grace Joyce at No. 4 singles and she did just that, outlasting Danielle Wilson 6-3, 7-5 and clinching the win for Princeton.
The Tigers are now one of 16 teams to qualify for the ITA Indoor National Championships, which takes place from February 7 until February 10 in Chicago, Illinois, and will be hosted by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Doubles
While the Tigers suffered a loss at the No. 1 singles position, the team of Nathalie Rodilosso and Brianna Shvets bounced back at No. 3 to defeat Danielle Willson and Estella Jaeger 6-2. Unforunately for the Tigers, the Trojans prevailed at No. 2 and would go into singles with the advantage after winning the doubles point.
