Women’s Tennis to Take on Northwestern Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. – After taking down a pair of top-20 opponents to open its season, the No. 17 Princeton University women's tennis team will take on Northwestern University Saturday in Evanston, Illinois.
The Tigers and Wildcats are no strangers, having met at the NCAA Championships last season where Princeton came out on top, 4-1, in Seattle, Washington. The two programs will square off at 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET inside the Combe Tennis Center on Northwestern's campus.

Princeton has had an outstanding start to the season as it earned a spot at the at the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Indoor National Championships after winning both of its matches at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Princeton defeated the No. 17 University of Washington 4-3 and the No. 11 University of Southern California 4-3 to book its trip to the ITA Indoor National Championships.
Three Tigers were included in the singles rankings; sophomore Brianna Shvets at No. 24, freshman Zoe Howard at No. 55 and freshman Daria Frayman at No. 66. None of the three were included in the preseason singles rankings announced on Tuesday, September 17, although Frayman was tabbed at No. 9 in the freshmen/newcomer rankings.
In the doubles rankings, Frayman and sophomore Grace Joyce were ranked No. 19 after not being ranked in the preseason.
Scouting Northwestern
The Wildcats are 1-1 on the season, most recently overcoming the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Prior to its matchup with Princeton, Northwestern will face Vanderbilt University on Friday, January 4.
Last season the Wildcats went 15-11 overall and 7-4 in Big Ten play, falling the Big Ten Tournament semifinals to top-seeded Michigan but still garnering a berth to the NCAA Championships.

The Tigers will host Temple University in a scrimmage on Sunday, February 2 inside Jadwin Gymnasium at 10 a.m.
