Weekend Look-Back: No. 7 Princeton Turns In Shutout Weekend to Cap Holiday Break
January 05, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
Putting up 15 goals, the seventh-ranked Princeton women's hockey team turned in a weekend sweep of Saint Anselm at Baker to come off the holiday break and get prepared to head back into ECAC Hockey play next weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard.
The weekend shutout, with a 5-0 win Friday and a 10-0 win Saturday, was Princeton's first two-game weekend shutout since sweeping Brown and Yale in January 2018, and it was the most goals Princeton scored in a weekend since putting up 18 in two games against Union in February 2005. The 10-goal game Saturday was Princeton's first double-digit effort since a 10-1 win over Union in February 2004, and it was the first time Princeton won a game by at least 10 goals since a January 1997 11-1 win against St. Lawrence.
The weekend featured several firsts, including:
• Freshman Emma Kee's first career goal, in Friday's game.
• Sophomore Cassie Reale's first career shutout, in Friday's game.
• Freshman Daniella Calabrese's first career point, on an assist in Friday's game.
• Sophomore Kayla Fillier's first career goal, in Saturday's game.
• Junior Amanda Harris's first point of the season, on an assist in Saturday's game.
• Sophomore Chloe Harvey's first points of the season and first career multi-point game, on a pair of assists in Saturday's game.
Senior Carly Bullock's goal in Saturday's game was the 77th of her career, moving her into a tie for seventh all-time in program history with Susan Finney '90. She is 10 goals out of sixth, held by Gretchen Anderson '04. Senior Stephanie Neatby's win in goal Saturday was the 36th of her career, putting breaking a tie for fifth all-time. She's five wins back of Roxanne Gaudiel '06 for fourth.
Fifteen Tigers scored points on the weekend, and 11 players had multi-point weekends, led by sophomore Sarah Fillier, who had two goals and three assists Saturday after a two-goal game Friday on the way to seven points on the weekend, sophomore Maggie Connors, who had a hat trick and an assist in the first period Saturday as part of a five-point weekend, and Sharon Frankel, who had a goal and three assists on the weekend.
Fillier's five-point game was the second time in a month that she has scored at least five points in a game, along with getting a goal and five helpers on Dec. 7 against Colgate. Blue-liner Thompson's three-assist game was her first since January 2017 against Dartmouth, and Connors' hat trick was her first since last February against Brown. Junior Shannon Griffin had two goals Saturday for her first career multi-goal game. Freshman Annie Kuehl had three points on the weekend and has had a point in four straight games after scoring a point in three of the Tigers' first 13 games. Sophomore Mariah Keopple had her first two-assist game of the season.
