After Princeton
- Individual champion at the 1979 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross-Country Championships -- the first Tiger to win an individual XC Heps championship. Also claimed 1983 Outdoor Heps title in 5,000m.
- Three-time first-team All-Ivy selection (1978, 1979, 1982).
- Member of two Ivy League championship teams (1978, 1979) in cross country and three in outdoor track and field (1979, 1982, 1983)
- Competed at 1982 NCAA Championships.
- Two-time AIAW All-American (1978, 1979) before Cross Country was officially recognized as a NCAA sport.
- 1983 NCAA All-American in the 3,000m
- Still holds Princeton program record in the outdoor 3,000m (9:01.70) which is 17.9 seconds faster than No. 2
- Still holds Ivy League Heptagonal Championships meet record in outdoor 5,000m (16;10.93)
After Princeton
- Bronze medalist in the 10,000m at 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona
- Represented the United States at three Olympics (1988, 1992, 1996)
- Three-time World Cross Country Championships gold medalist (1990, 1991, 1992)
- Nine-time USA Cross Country Championships gold medalist
