A few months removed from an Austrian Cup championship, former Princeton men's soccer standout player and assistant coach Jesse Marsch '96 has his Red Bull Salzburg club on the verge of a momentous step forward and a spot in the UEFA Champions League knockout round.

After a 3-1 win on the road at Lokomtiv Moscow on December 1, Marsch's group sits in third place in Group A with four points. FC Red Bull is two points behind Atletico Madrid -- the two sides meet December 9 in Austria. A victory over El Atleti will send Red Bull through to the Round of 16.

The two teams have met once in the 2020 Champions League group stage, a 3-2 win for Atletico in Madrid on October 27. Red Bull Salzburg briefly led the match, 2-1, before Atletico leveled the contest in the 52nd minute and netted the game-winner in the 85th minute.
