No. 22 Women’s Swimming & Diving Has Record-Breaking Second Night at Ivy Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 22 Princeton University women's swimming & diving team had a spectacular second night at the Ivy League Championships, winning three events and breaking two school records along with a conference and a pool record Thursday night inside the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center.
Along with its pair of conference championships and school records, the Tigers were also honored for their dual meet title in a short ceremony. It was Princeton's first dual meet title since 2015.
Ellie Marquardt finished in first-place in the 500 freestyle and broke the Princeton, conference and pool record while Nicole Venema won the 50 freestyle. Princeton also finished first and set a new school record in the 200 freestyle relay and Christie Chong broke the school record in the 200 IM.
In the team standings, the Tigers sit in second place with 508 points. Harvard University leads with 510 and Yale University is third with 352.5.
500 Freestyle
Princeton started the night off in spectacular fashion in the 500 freestyle as Ellie Marquardt finished first and broke the school, pool and conference records with an NCAA B cut time of 4:36.37 seconds. Marquardt topped the previous record of 4:37.58 seconds set by Alicia Aemisegger in 2010 and her time would have qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2018-19.
Marquardt was not the only Tiger to perform strongly in the 500 freestyle; Courtney Tseng finished fourth in 4:45.74 seconds and Addison Smith finished fifth in 4:46.00 seconds. Both times were NCAA B cuts and Tseng's time was the fifth-fastest in school history while Smith's was sixth.
200 IM
The Tigers' streak of breaking records continued in the 200 IM; Christie Chong touched the wall at 1:57.89 seconds to finish second and best the old record of 1:58.37 seconds set by Alicia Aemisegger. Chong's time was also an NCAA B cut.
With a time of 2:00.13 seconds, Regan Barney finished fifth. Janet Zhao competed in the C final and finished first in 2:02.82 seconds.
50 Freestyle
The Tigers earned the top two spots and earned a pair of NCAA B cuts in the 50 freestyle as Venema finished first and Amelia Liu took second. Venema's time of 22.41 was the second-fastest time in school history and an NCAA B cut while Liu's time of 22.48 was the fourth-fastest. With a time of 23.10, the ninth-fastest time in school history, Sarah Grinalds finished eighth.
200 Freestyle Relay
The team of Venema, Grinalds, Liu and Christina Bradley set a new school record and earned a first-place finish with a time of 1:29.76 seconds.
1-Meter Diving
Princeton made its presence felt on the podium in the 1-meter diving as Sine Scribbick finished second with a score of 289.75 and Mimi Lin third with a score of 275.90.

The Tigers will resume competition tomorrow on day three at the Ivy League Championships. Prelims will commence at 11 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
