No. 6 Princeton Sweeps Weekend, Beats Union 3-0
February 08, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
Now unbeaten in nine straight and winners of five in a row, the sixth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team turned in a 3-0 shutout against Union Saturday afternoon at Baker Rink, staying alone in second place in the ECAC Hockey League as the season heads into its penultimate regular-season weekend next week.
As with Friday night's win over RPI, Princeton scored early again, and again with one of its scoring leaders, this time with Carly Bullock taking a centering pass from Daniella Calabrese and sending it in for a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
Â
Just more than five minutes into the second period, Maggie Connors, Sarah Fillier and Bullock, a combined 112 points between them on the season, charged up the ice with Connors sending a pass toward Fillier from the left wing and Filler redirecting it to Bullock for a 2-0 lead.
Â
With less than five minutes to go in the second, Fillier picked up a pass from Bullock at the Tigers' defensive blue line and took it the rest of the way as Princeton grew the lead to 3-0.
Â
Rachel McQuigge made 13 saves to turn in her third shutout in her last four outings, while the goal and the assist lifted Fillier to 99 career points as her sophomore season heads toward the finish. Bullock's three-point day lifted her to 85 career goals, two out of sixth place on the Princeton career list, and 141 career points, one out of 10th.
Princeton will make its final regular-season road trip next weekend, Friday at St. Lawrence and Saturday at Clarkson.
