Jeremiah Tyler Named Preseason Second-Team All-American
September 02, 2020 | Football
Jeremiah Tyler was primed for a big senior year before the COVID-19 shutdown of almost all of FCS football, including the Ivy League, this fall. That hasn't stopped the Princeton linebacker from continuing to earn some impressive national honors.
Tyler, a Bushnell Cup finalist last year for Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, was named an FCS Preseason Second-Team All-American by Stats Perform.
"Obviously we'd love to be in training camp right now getting ready for the season," says Princeton head coach Bob Surace. "I'm sure we'd all be marveling again at how Jeremiah was performing on the field and as a leader for our program. Everyone involved with Princeton football is thrilled to see Jeremiah get this recognition. It's something he's certainly earned in his career here to date."
Â
Tyler was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection last year, one of four unanimous picks in the league, after being a secod-team selection as a sophomore of Princeton's unbeaten 2018 team. Tyler led the Ivy League in tackles for loss and was second on the team in total tackles with 62 (34 solo) last year, and he also had five sacks, seven pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and a huge interception against Harvard.
A sociology major from Detroit, Tyler shared the Poe-Kazmaier Trophy, Princeton's highest individual football honor, with quarterback Kevin Davidson.
