No. 12 Princeton Drops Close Battle vs. No. 2 Cal; Continues Trip At Julian Fraser Tournament This Weekend

BERKELEY – The No. 12 Princeton Tigers dropped a hard-fought decision to the No. 2 California Bears, 15-11, at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
The first quarter was a fast-paced affair with eight total goals. Cal's Garrett Dunn's tally with 14 seconds left tied the score at 4-all.
Cal kept its run going with the first two goals of the second frame to jump in front, 6-4. Princeton got within one twice, but Cal held an 8-6 advantage at the break.
This time it was Princeton's turn to go on a run, getting goals from Mitchell Cooper, Joan Coloma, and George Caras to go ahead, 9-8. Mason Killion's tally gave head coach Dustin Litvak's squad a 10-9 advantage after 24 minutes.
After a Cal goal, Roko Pozaric put the Tigers back on top with 6:11 to go. Cal countered 26 seconds later.
Two goals by the Bears over a minute stretch set the score at 13-11 as the clock ticked near two minutes remaining. They added two insurance tallies to wrap up the scoring.

Princeton continues its West Coast Trip with four contests at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament this weekend (Oct. 22-24). The Tigers take on Santa Clara on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. PT). Saturday features two nationally ranked foes in No. 19 Air Force at 12:50 p.m. (9:50 a.m. PT) and No. 10 San Jose State at 7:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. PT). Sunday will see Princeton take on Biola at 12:20 p.m. (9:20 a.m. PT). Friday's game will be at Santa Clara while the rest of the weekend will be at San Jose.
Litvak's unit has five players with over 20 goals this season in Pozaric (48), Keller Maloney (40), Killion (24), Caras (24) and Wyatt Benson (22). Caras has recorded five tallies in Princeton's two games this week. In goal, Antonio Knez has posted 10 wins while Motherway has won seven of eight starts.
