Women's Lacrosse Announces 2022 Schedule
November 02, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
The Princeton women's lacrosse team will face five NCAA tournament teams from 2021, a spring break trip to California and seven hungry Ivy League opponents in the 2022 season, head coach Chris Sailer has announced. The 2022 Tigers will be seeking the program's seventh straight Ivy League championship.
Â
The spring break trip, which will be a homecoming for San Diego native and All-American goalie Sam Fish, will see Princeton play at USC on March 8 and San Diego State on March 12 and will mark the second time Princeton has made this trip, after doing so in 2014 as well. Southern Cal also played at Princeton in 2013.
Â
"Our goal in scheduling is always the same," Sailer says. "We want to challenge ourselves as much as we can, which helps give our players the best possible experience they can have. We're excited about seeing some of our biggest rivals again, and we're really happy that we can give Sam Fish a chance to play near her home after everything she has meant to the program."
Â
The 2022 season opens on Feb. 19 at Virginia, followed one week later by the home opener against Temple. Both of those teams reached the NCAA tournament last year.
Â
The Ivy League opener is on March 5, at home against Cornell, before the trip to the West. Princeton will next be home on March 29 against Stony Brook, another NCAA team last spring, after road games at Penn State, NCAA-participant Loyola and Columbia.Â
Â
Princeton's three other Ivy League home games will be against Dartmouth (April 16), Penn (April 20) and Yale (April 30), with trips to Brown (April 9) and Harvard (April 23).
Â
The schedule also has Princeton renewing its long-standing rivalry with Maryland, the fifth 2021 NCAA opponent, at home on April 13. Princeton and Maryland will be playing for the 41st time, while the meeting with Penn State will be the 42nd in that series.
Â
Princeton will feature a 10-woman senior class that includes four-year starters Fish in goal, Kyla Sears on attack and Marge Donovan, Mary Murphy and Olivia Pugh on defense. Princeton also returns sophomores Kari Buonanno and Grace Taukus, who combined for 31 goals in five games in 2020.
Â
Admission to all Princeton women's lacrosse regular season games is free. The dates and times of the schedule may be affected by the television schedule, which is still to be announced.
