November 06, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton moved to 2-0 in ECAC play with a 6-2 win at Yale, completing a weekend sweep on the road. The Tigers scored 12 goals over their two wins to start ECAC competition, while allowing five.
For the second night in a row, six different scorers found the back of the net for the Tigers, and 10 different players had at least one point for Princeton in the win.
Ian Murphy had a goal and two assists, while Pito Walton finished with three helpers on the night. Mark Paolini added a goal and an assist.
Jeremie Forget had 28 saves for his first win of the season, including 13 stops in the second period.
Princeton was dominant on special teams, going 2-for-2 on power plays and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill with a short-handed goal for good measure.
Princeton jumped all over the Bulldogs to start the game, scoring three times in the first period. The three goals came in a span of 5:15, a span where the Tigers scored a short-handed goal, an even strength goal, and then a power-play goal.
Nick Seitz opened the scoring with a nifty backhander to finish a short-handed breakaway with 11:10 remaining in the first period to net his first career goal. Paolini had the assist after a good stretch pass past the Yale extra-man unit.
Mackenzie Merriman followed with his second goal in as many games, finishing a 2-on-1 rush off an Ian Murphy pass after a turnover forced just inside the Princeton blueline.
Paolini made it three in a row for the Tigers with a power-play goal 1:43 later. After good work in the corner, from Luke Keenan, Pito Walton dished a no-look pass across to his partner and Paolini zipped a snap short over the shoulder of the Yale goalie.
In the second period, Christian O'Neill extended Princeton's lead to 4-0 with his first of the year at the 12:14 mark of the middle period. Just after the Tigers finished killing a penalty, O'Neill was on a 2-on-1 with Ian Murphy and he finished Muprhy's pass with a quick strike.
Yale would get on the board with 4:48 left in the second period when Niklas Allain gathered his own rebound and fired it home for the Bulldogs.
Finn Evans made sure Yale had no thoughts of a comeback with a PPG at the 7:15 mark of the third period. Walton and Adam Robbins did the work on the perimeter to set up Evans, who quickly snapped home the rebound of his first offering which was blocked in the high slot to give Princeton a 5-1 lead.
After Allain added his second of the night for Yale with t5:18 remaining, Ian Murphy capped the night with goal at the 19:44 mark. Walton dangled through the Yale defense in the waning seconds, and a loose puck found Murphy who clanged in his second of the season.
