PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Athletics Department has announced Carlie Littlefield as its New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year.
Â
"I am truly honored to be the recipient of this year's Woman of the Year award from the NJAIAW," said Littlefield. "It has been a unique and challenging year for everybody, so I am grateful that the NJAIAW still made it a priority to celebrate the accomplishments of women in sport. I am so thankful for my incredible and inspiring teammates, the mentorship from my coaching staff, the unwavering support of our Princeton alumnae family, and for the opportunity to be a part of the Princeton community over the past three and a half years.
Â
This support system has been especially important for me over the past year and I owe a lot to my Princeton family for supporting me and helping me remain positive, flexible, and resilient. My entire experience at Princeton has been extremely rewarding, as I have grown as a basketball player, as a student, and as a leader. It is an incredible feeling to receive this award, as I believe it symbolizes that I have been able to give back to an institution that has given me so much."Â
"Congratulations to Carlie on this great honor and her incredible career," said Princeton head coach Carla Berube. "Carlie truly embodies our Princeton Athletics' mission to Achieve, Serve and Lead. She has left an indelible mark on our program because of her relentless work ethic, her resilient leadership, her integrity and her commitment to serving others. We are so proud of Carlie and look forward to honoring her this evening.
Â
Each year NJAIAW hosts the Woman of the Year celebration in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This special event recognizes the outstanding achievements of our female collegiate athletes. This has been a unique and challenging year, but the accomplishments and triumphs of women in sport will not go unnoticed.
Â
Littlefield, a three-time Ivy League champion and two-time Ivy League tournament champion, has participated in 87 games during her time at Princeton. The only game she didn't start was her freshman year as the team started all of its seniors for Senior Night. She will graduate with 1,021 points, 358 rebounds, 255 assists, 135 steals and 107 three-pointers. The two-time All-Ivy point guard is all over the Princeton record book. She will leave the program in the top ten in career three-point percentage (.371). Last season, she tied the single-game record with 10 steals in a win over George Washington. She also made an immediate impact as a freshman as her 84 assists were tied for the second-most in a season.
