Softball Team to Host Drexel for Tuesday Pair
May 03, 2021 | Softball
In what will be the first spring intercollegiate game at the Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field, the Princeton softball team will host Drexel for two on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Per Princeton University policies, spectators and media are not permitted at events hosted by Princeton.
Fans can follow the games via Live Stats and on ESPN+.
The doubleheader was initially scheduled for Wednesday before expected rain caused the games to be moved up a day.
In April, Princeton University permitted the athletics program to advance to phase four of the return-to-play protocols, which permits local intercollegiate competition. Tuesday's games will be Princeton's last before second-semester finals begin on Thursday.
In Princeton's first and only other game this season, the Tigers battled Big East first-place Villanova to the final pitch last Thursday before the Wildcats held on, 3-2. It was the career debut in the circle for freshman Molly Chambers, who gave up two runs on five hits and four walks in five innings, getting a no-decision as Princeton tied it up in the top of the sixth. Five Tigers split the team's five hits.Â
Princeton will face another City Six team with a strong record in Drexel, as the Dragons come in at 24-9 and after taking two of three from Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association series over the weekend. Drexel leads the CAA's North division at 10-5.Â
Princeton holds a 23-7 all-time series lead over Drexel, though the teams have not met since 2002. Princeton has won the last five in the series, with Drexel's last win over Princeton coming in 1999. The Tigers have won the last 10 at home against Drexel, with the Dragons' last win in Princeton coming in 1992. The teams played annually from 1990 through 2002 after the series began in 1985 and continued in '87 and '88.
