Men's Lightweight Wenk Picks Up Gold For Germany At U-23 World Rowing Championships

RACICE, Czech Republic – The Princeton men's lightweight team secured a gold medal on day four of the U-23 World Rowing Championships Saturday.
Aaron Wenk '25 (Germany 4x) brough home the gold medal (5:56.23) in a wire-to-wire victory.
The race started closely as four boats remained within 10m of each other at the 500m led by Germany. The Germans expanded their lead to almost two seconds at the 1000m before adding another second to their advantage 500m later. France made one last push, closing the gap to 10m before Germany held on for the top spot.
Congratulations to Aaron on an impressive victory," said Princeton head Marty Crotty. "It's always a great honor to win a medal at prestigious event and we're proud of how hard he's worked to get to this point."
Eion Gaffney (Ireland 2x) and his teammate Rory O'Neill easily moved onto the final by placing second (6:23.82), over three seconds ahead of third. Germany won the semifinal by less than a second (6:22.35). The final is July 11th at 6:40 a.m.
Nick Aarnow '25 (United States 1x) was fifth in his semifinal (7:05.65) to finish his event.
Sydney Edwards and the United States 8+ will race for gold on July 11th at 7:40 a.m.
