No. 22 Princeton Deals Delaware a Shutout in Pre-Ivy Finale
September 19, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Tatum Gee, Caroline Noonan, Heather MacNab and Gabi Juarez each scored a goal and Grace Barbara and Tyler McCamey combined for the shutout as No. 22 Princeton picked up a road win over Delaware 4-0 on Sunday in the last game before the Tigers start Ivy League play.
Yale will come to Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start when both teams begin the Ivy season.
"The team provided a great response today after a disappointing result on Thursday," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "There were a number of notable performances across the field and in particular our back line and keepers who earned the shutout. All things considered, under very hot conditions, it was exactly what we needed moving into Ivy League play."
Gee opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by Noonan's goal in the 34th as Princeton took a 2-0 lead into the break. MacNab added her third goal of the year in the 69th minute, and Juarez closed the scoring in the 89th minute.
Noonan's goal made her the 12th Tiger to score a goal this year, and MacNab's goal lifted her season point total to 12, the highest for a Tiger freshman since Mimi Asom '19 had 28 points in 2015, just three short of the program's freshman record of 31 by Linda DeBoer '86 in 1982. The 2015 season was also the last time the program had as many as 12 players score a goal in a season, as a dozen Tigers scored a goal that year.
Now 6-1-1, Princeton is off to its best start through eight games since 2017, when a 7-1 pre-conference start ended with a shutout win over Delaware before the Tigers opened Ivy play with a home win over Yale.
