Princeton is off to a 6-1-1 start and was ranked No. 22 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches poll on Sept. 14. It's the program's best record through eight games since 2017, when Princeton was 7-1, also after a win over Delaware to close pre-Ivy play. Yale opened the Tigers' league schedule that year as well, and Princeton won that Ivy opener 2-0.Â
Princeton has seen 12 Tigers score a goal already this season, the program's most since 2015, when 12 players scored in that season as well. The last time Princeton had more than 12 scorers was 2011, when 13 players scored. The Tigers' leading point scorer, freshman Heather MacNab, has 12 points (3g, 9a), the most by a freshman since Mimi Asom '19 had 28 in 2015. The program's freshman points record is 31, by Linda DeBoer '86 in 1982.
Between the posts, Princeton has split time between senior Grace Barbara (4-1-1, 1.29 GAA) and freshman Tyler McCamey (2-0, 0,00 GAA), who have combined for an 0.97 GAA on the season. Princeton has ended the season with a GAA under 1.00 in each of the previous four seasons, since 2016.Â
Yale snapped a seven-game skid to start the season with a 2-0 win over St. John's on Sunday. Seven players have split the team's eight goals on the season, and rookie Annie Welch has been the team's primary goalkeeper, accruing a 3.14 GAA.
Yale won last time against Princeton, a 1-0 win in a Tiger home game in 2019, snapping a two-game Tiger win streak and five-game Tiger unbeaten run in the series. No current Tiger or Bulldog keeper has played against the other team, and the only current player to score in the series is Princeton senior Olivia Kane, in 2017.
