No. 14 Princeton Takes Part In Navy Invite To Begin 2021 Season

PRINCETON, N.J. – Tied at No. 14 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Preseason Poll, the Princeton Tigers begin the 2021 season at the Navy Invitational this weekend in Annapolis.
The Tigers start the tournament with two contests on Saturday and two more on Sunday. On Saturday, Princeton battles Mt. St. Mary's (10:30 a.m.) and George Washington (4:45 p.m.). The next day, the Tigers take on No. 3 California (8 a.m.) and Johns Hopkins (11:45 a.m.). The program has never faced Mt. St. Mary's while its 41-3 all-time over George Washington, 0-3 vs. California and 46-5 vs. Johns Hopkins.
Some top returners for the 2021 team include Mitchell Cooper, an honorable mention All-America (2019), Keller Maloney, a second-team All-NWPC (2019), Wyatt Benson, a NWPC All-Tournament first-team (2019), and Billy Motherway, a NWPC All-Tournament first-team selection (2018).
Princeton has made three straight Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament Championship contests. The Tigers earn the conference crown in 2018, defeating Harvard.
UCLA came into the top spot in the CWPA Preseason Poll, just in front of USC and California. Stanford and Pepperdine round out the poll. Harvard was the top the NWPC squad at No. 11.
