Liu Ties for Runner-Up as Tigers Finish Third at Penn State
September 05, 2021 | Women's Golf
Freshman Victoria Liu tied for second overall in her collegiate debut as the Princeton women's golf team finished third at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational.
Liu finished at -7, even with Delaware's Oihana Etxezarreta and three strokes behind winner Mathilde Delavallade of Penn State. Etzezarreta had the low round of the tournament in Saturday's first round at 65, while Delavallade was the only player to shoot below 70 in each of the three rounds. Liu started with a 72 before breaking 70 in each of her final two rounds, with a 68 and 69.
In breaking 70 twice, Liu became just the fourth Tiger in program history to have multiple sub-70 rounds in a career, joining Susannah Aboff '09, Kelly Shon '14 and Maya Walton '20. Liu is just the third freshman to break 70, joining Walton, who had a 68 at the 2017 NCAA regional, and teammate Grace Ni, who shot 69 at the Mary Fossum Invitational in 2019. Walton, with six, has the most sub-70 rounds in a Princeton career.
Penn State won the tournament at -13, 12 shots in front of Delaware (-1) while Princeton took third at +5.

The Tigers will compete again next Sunday and Monday at the William & Mary Invitational.
