Cunningham's Impressive Outing Pushes Women's Basketball Over Penn, 70-50

PHILADELPHIA – Julia Cunningham registered a game-high 22 points while Abby Meyers and Ellie Mitchell produced double-doubles as the Princeton Tigers rolled over the Penn Quakers, 70-50, at the Palestra on Monday afternoon.

Cunningham was 9-of-17 from the floor and hit four three-pointers while adding six rebounds. Mitchell had a game-high 12 caroms with her 10 points. Meyers had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Princeton broke open the first quarter with 18 consecutive points and took a 24-9 lead after 10 minutes. The Tigers scored 13 of their 24 points off eight Quakers turnovers. Six straight points to end the second quarter cut the Penn deficit to 12, 37-25, at the intermission.

Head coach Carla Berube's team kept its distance from Penn in the third stanza behind a 12-point outburst from Cunningham. The Quakers did not get within 10 in the second half as they were held to just seven points in the fourth frame as Princeton wrapped up the victory.

Penn's Kayla Padilla who came into the contest with the highest scoring average in the Ivy League (23.7) was held to 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting, her second worst outings of the year.

Princeton is now 12-4 overall, 4-0 in the Ivy League and on a five-game winning streak. Penn falls to 7-8 and 2-1 in the conference. The Tigers welcome Dartmouth to Jadwin Gym on Jan. 22. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
