Women's Volleyball Wins 10th-Straight, Sweeps Columbia 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team won its 10th-straight match Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium, dispatching Columbia 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-15) to also complete the weekend sweep.
On the match, the Tigers hit .436 and limited the Lions to a .096 hitting percentage. Senior Avery Luoma led the way for the Tigers, finishing with a match-high 11 kills on a .563 hitting percentage. Senior Lindsey Kelly, the national leader in the category, finishing with a match-high 36 assists, while Luoma and freshman Ella Bunde tied for the match-high in service aces, with two. Defensively, senior Cameron Dames' 12 digs were a match-high, as were freshman Lucia Scalamandre's seven blocks.
It was the Lions who took control in the opening set, taking an 11-9 lead. The Tigers would soon bounce back, with a kill by a sophomore Mariah Haislip igniting a 5-0 run that put Princeton ahead, 14-11. With Princeton up 16-13, a kill by a senior Melina Mahood sparked a 6-0 run, putting the Tigers comfortably in control at 21-13. From there, the Tigers went on to take the first set by 11 points, 25-14.
While Columbia won the first two points of the second set, a Scalamandre kill led off a 5-0 run that gave the Tigers a 5-2 advantage. Princeton remained in control for the remainder of the set; with the Tigers up 18-11, back-to-back kills by Haislip sparked a 7-0 run of which the Tigers would close out the set on, winning the set 25-11 and going up 2-0 in the match.
Princeton surged ahead early in the third set, 9-1, with assistance from a 9-0 run. A kill by Scalamandre extended the Tigers' lead to double-digits, 16-6, and the Tigers stayed ahead from there. A kill by Luoma gave Princeton match point at 24-14, then a junior Julia Cabri kill gave the Tigers the 25-15 victory in the third set, and the 3-0 sweep in the match.
