Men's Hockey Falls To Cornell, 3-1
November 04, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
A quick two-goal spurt in the second period was too much for Princeton to overcome in a 3-1 loss to Cornell at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Tigers did not go quietly, netting a power-play goal in the third period before an empty-netter with under 0:30 remaining iced the game.
Ethan Pearson was the star of the first period, making 17 saves to keep the Big Red off the scoreboard as the Tigers were outshot, 17-6. By game's end, Pearson had recorded 34 saves -- one shy of his career high set against RIT last season on November 26.
Gabriel Seger struck first for Cornell on the power play at the 11:30 mark, with assists to Max Andreev and Ben Berard.
Exactly half a minute later, Tim Rego picked up an Andreev drop pass at his own blue line, and went the rest of the way before eventually skating around the back of the net and tucking the puck off Pearson and in.
Captain Pito Walton got Princeton on the board 6:46 into the third period with a power-play goal. A clean faceoff win from Adam Robbins led to a wrister through traffic from Walton to cut the deficit to a goal.
A late empty-netter from Travis Mitchell with 0:22 remaining provided late insurance for the Big Red.
Spencer Kersten was 9-for-15 on faceoffs for Princeton in the game.
