Verbit Named Football Scoop Finalist For FCS Defensive Coordinator of the Year

PRINCETONÂ - Princeton Football's Senior Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Steve Verbit has been named a finalist for the Football Scoop's FCS Defensive Coordinator of the Year Award.

Princeton's defense finished No. 1 in the country in scoring (13.5), third in rushing defense (90.7), fourth in total defense (299.7) and interceptions (16), 11th in passing efficiency defense (115.37) and 15th in fewest first downs allowed (189).

The Tigers had six All-Ivy selections on the defensive side of the ball highlighted by Liam Johnson winning the Bushnell Cup for Ivy Defensive Player of the Year.

Johnson led Princeton and ranked fourth in the Ivy League in tackles (90). A former Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, Johnson averaged 13 tackles per game over the final two weeks of the season and scored two touchdowns during the year, including a 92-yard fumble return against Penn. He averaged 9.9 tackles per Ivy League game, the third-best mark in the league.
