Women's Basketball Clinches Share of Ivy Crown With 73-53 Win Over Columbia

NEW YORK – Kaitlyn Chen and Grace Stone combined for 46 points as the Princeton Tigers clinched a share of the Ivy League regular season title with a 73-53 victory over the Columbia Lions at Levien Gym on Wednesday evening.

Princeton started off hot in the first quarter going 11-of-19 from the floor (57.9 percent) while hitting four three-pointers, jumping ahead 26-8 after 10 minutes. Stone registered 13 of her 19 points in the first frame.

A Chet Nweke basket 90 seconds into the second stanza put Princeton in front by 21 and the road squad led by at least 20 the rest of the half. The Tigers led by as many as 30 before taking a 47-21 advantage into halftime.

Columbia made one push, cutting its deficit to 15, 51-36, with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter. Julia Cunningham knocked down a basket and Abby Meyers followed with an and-1 to push the game back to a 20-point affair, 56-36.

The Lions never got within 17 the rest of the way.

Chen's 27 points are the most since Meyers registered 28 at Cornell in January. Stone's 19 points are a career high. Ellie Mitchell grabbed 13 rebounds, the 11th time this season she snagged at least 10+ boards in a game.

With the win, Princeton clinched its 16th Ivy League title, securing at least a share of the crown. The Tigers are now 20-4 overall and 12-0 in the conference. Columbia is 19-5 this season and 10-2 in Ivy action. It's also the 14th time in program history that the Tigers have recorded 20 wins in a season.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad can clinch the outright Ivy League regular season championship with a win at Harvard on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
