Glory, Monday Lead Six Tigers Earning All-Ivy Honors
March 02, 2022 | Wrestling
Patrick Glory and Quincy Monday earned first-team All-Ivy League recognition to lead six Princeton wrestlers on the All-Ivy teams, the league announced on Wednesday.
Travis Stefanik and Luke Stout were second-team honorees, and Danny Coles and Matt Cover earned honorable mention. It's the seventh consecutive All-Ivy League team where Princeton has had All-Ivy league honorees at at least five of the 10 weights. Monday was also the program's selection for Academic All-Ivy recognition, as each Ivy program can nominate one wrestler for the honor.
Here's a look at Princeton's honorees:
Patrick Glory • Jr. • 125 • First Team
Glory enters this weekend's EIWA championships with a 13-0 record, including a title at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas along the way, extending his unbeaten streak to a 37th consecutive bout. Ranked No. 2 in the nation in the NCAA coaches poll, Glory has gone 6-0 this season against wrestlers ranked by InterMat or by the NCAA coaches poll since that ranking began during the season. Of Glory's 13 wins, eight have come with bonus points, and in Ivy matches, Glory went 5-0 with four of those wins coming with bonus points. The honor is the third in three years for Glory, who was a second-teamer in 2019 and a first-teamer in 2020.
Danny Coles • Fr. • 141 • Honorable Mention
Coles went 7-6 overall, and in Ivy matches, went 3-2 (excluding extra matches), earning Princeton's spot at 141 in his rookie season. Among Coles' wins was an 8-7 decision over Arizona State's Cleveland Belton that helped swing that dual match to Princeton in a 20-18 win. Coles' Ivy wins that counted toward dual matches were over Harvard's Kenny Herrmann, Brown's Timothy Levine and Cornell's JJ Wilson.
Quincy Monday • Jr. • 157 • First Team & Academic All-Ivy
With a 16-3 record this season, Monday enters the EIWA championships having won eight matches in a row, turning a 5-0 sweep in Ivy dual matches. Ranked No. 6 by the NCAA coaches poll, Monday went 5-3 against Intermat- or NCAA coaches-ranked opponents, with all three defeats on the season coming against opponents ranked 11th or higher. Monday opened his season with a Southeast Open title and made the Cliff Keen final, defeating No. 6-ranked Peyton Robb in the semis. It is Monday's third first-team All-Ivy honor in three seasons with the program.
Travis Stefanik • Jr. • 184 • Second Team
Stefanik holds an 11-3 record entering the EIWAs and holds a No. 25 ranking by the NCAA coaches panel. Stefanik has a pair of wins over InterMat- or NCAA coaches-ranked opponents this season, including over Purdue's then-No. 20 Max Lyon at the Cliff Keen Invite and Lehigh's then-No. 33 AJ Burkhart in a dual meet. In Ivy dual meets, Stefanik went 4-1, and all three of Stefanik's defeats this season have come against ranked opponents. It is Stefanik's third All-Ivy honor in as many seasons with the program, earning second-team recognition in 2019 and first-team honors in 2020.
Luke Stout • Fr. • 197 • Second Team
Stout, who holds a No. 19 ranking by the NCAA coaches panel, is 16-4 entering the EIWAs and went 4-1 in Ivy League duals. Stout entered the InterMat rankings in December and had two wins over fellow ranked opponents in that month, over Northwestern's then-No. 32 Andrew Davison and Ohio State's then-No. 21 Gavin Hoffman, both at the Cliff Keen Invite. All four of Stout's defeats this season have come against top-20 wrestlers.
Matt Cover • So. • HWT • Honorable Mention
Cover earns his first Ivy League honor, winning three matches in Ivy League duals against Columbia's Dan Conley, Harvard's Jeffrey Crooks and Brown's Lear Quinton.
