March 26, 2022 | Men's Tennis
PRINECETON, N.J. – On an afternoon that saw No. 54 Ryan Seggerman win his 10th-straight singles match, the No. 36 Princeton University men's tennis team defeated St. John's University, 6-1 inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
"Our effort and poise were good today against a very solid St John's squad," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "We were relatively sharp after having 13 days off since our last match. That break came at a good time for our guys to be at home and prepare for this match and Ivy season starting next weekend. We'll use the next six days to get ready for Penn as it's always a new season when conference play begins."
The Tigers won the doubles point, after Seggerman and Filippos Astreinidis, who played together for the first time, earned a 6-4 victory over Ryota Kaneda and Charlie James at the No. 2, and Karl Poling and Bill Duo overcame Carl Gustavson and Tudor Vlad Vasilache 7-6 at No. 3.
In singles, No. 54 Seggerman overcame Axel Vila Antuna, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, and Poling took down Gustavson 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. At the No. 3 spot, Justin Barki downed Ignacio Garcia 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, and Will Peters added a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Charlie James at No. 4. Thomas Bosancic also picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Vasilache.
