Women's Basketball Earns Outright Ivy Title With Impressive Win Over Penn on Senior Night

PRINCETON, N.J. – Abby Meyers led all scorers with 20 points as the Princeton Tigers clinched the outright Ivy League title with a 69-43 victory over the Penn Quakers on Friday evening at Jadwin Gym on Senior Night.

The Tigers trailed 13-12 with three minutes to go in the first quarter, but six quick points put the home squad ahead, 18-13, before taking a two-point advantage into the second frame. Kaitlyn Chen's eight points help push the Tigers' offense.

Princeton pitched a shutout over the final six minutes of the second stanza, turning a two-point deficit into a 33-22 lead at halftime. The Tigers held the Quakers to 1-of-11 shooting and forced seven turnovers in the quarter.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad outscored Penn, 13-5, to open the second half, stretching its advantage to 19, 46-27, and the road team never got within 13 the rest of the way.

Meyers was one of four players for the Tigers in double figures along with Grace Stone (16), Julia Cunningham (13), and Kaitlyn Chen (11).

The Tigers gave up just one basket in the fourth frame and just 12 overall, forcing the Quakers to shoot just 23.1 percent (12-52) from the floor. Princeton has now allowed 10 points or less in 37 quarters this season.

Prior to the game, the program honored the Class of 2022 in Meyers, Neenah Young and student manager Sally Jane Ruybalid. That group has won an incredible 93 games during its four playing seasons and is 51-4 against the Ivy League.

With the win, Princeton improves to 21-4 overall and 13-0 in Ivy action while Penn drops to 12-14 this season and 7-7 in conference play. Â The Tigers finish the regular season at Harvard on Sunday (12 p.m.).
