Women's Basketball Makes Ivy History In 73-53 Victory over Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Princeton women's basketball team had four players in double figures in a 73-53 takedown of the Harvard Crimson at Lavietes Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 22-4 overall and 14-0 in the Ivy League with the victory.

Princeton is the first team in conference history to secure consecutive 14-0 Ivy seasons.

Ellie Mitchell scored a career-high 15 points, adding 12 rebounds while Abby Meyers (14), Kaitlyn Chen (12) and Julia Cunningham (11) were the other players in double digits for the Tigers.

In front, 11-8, the Tigers roared off a 9-3 push to jump ahead by nine, 20-11, with 1:35 to go in the first quarter. Princeton led by five (20-15) after 10 minutes.

Head coach Carla Berube's team registered the first 11 points of the second stanza, extending its lead to 16, 31-15. Harvard closed within 12, but Princeton kept the home unit at bay and led 37-22 at the break. The Tigers allowed seven points in the second quarter and just three buckets.

Harvard began the second half by closing the gap to nine, but Meyers hit three-pointers on consecutive possessions to put the game back to a 15-point margin, 47-32. The Crimson never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Princeton will take on Harvard in the first Ivy League Tournament contest on Friday (Mar. 11) at 4:30 p.m. Columbia and Yale square off at 7:30 p.m.
