Tigers Complete Series Sweep of Penn
April 24, 2022 | Softball
Eight Tigers had hits and five drove in runs as the Princeton softball team completed a weekend sweep of Penn with a 9-5 win on Sunday at Princeton Softballl Stadium at Strubing Field.
The win moves Princeton to 14-4 in the Ivy League heading into next weekend's series at Columbia. A Princeton sweep at Columbia, coupled with one Dartmouth loss over the Big Green's last nine Ivy League games, would clinch the Tigers hosting the Ivy League Championship Series, set for May 13-14.
A seven-run second inning saw Princeton send 12 batters to the plate and get nine hits, with Cate Bade, Serena Starks, Sophia Marsalo, Ali Blanchard and Lauren Sablone all driving in runs.Â
Penn got four back in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 7-5, but Princeton made it a four-run lead with Starks doubling home a pair of runs.
Blanchard started the game in the circle and went the first three innings before giving way to Molly Chambers for an inning and a third. Alexis Laudenslager closed it out with 2 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just two walks and striking out four.
Princeton will host Rider for a non-league pair on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
