Baseball Hosts NJIT for Wednesday Matinee
April 26, 2022 | Baseball
Princeton, N.J. — Princeton looks ahead to its penultimate nonconference game with NJIT coming to Clarke Field on Wednesday, April 27 at 3 p.m.
The Tigers are 6-26 heading into this game after a win in their series against Harvard on the weekend and a victory in last week's Wednesday game against eighth-ranked Rutgers.
Entering Wednesday's game, Princeton's offense is led by leadoff hitter Brendan Cumming. The junior leads Princeton with a .377 batting average, 55 hits, 10 doubles, and 35 runs. Nadir Lewis and Matt Scannell both lead the team with 32 RBI. Lewis is batting .323 while Scannell is hitting at a .298 tick.
When he's not starting on the mound, Jackson Emus has proven to be one of Princeton's most effective hitters. He ranks second on the team with a .342 batting average.
On the hump against NJIT, Princeton will likely give innings to some of its bullpen arms. Last week, Reece Rabin was handed an appearance against No. 8 Rutgers and took the opportunity head-first. A 5.2-inning, game-winning performance (with three strikeouts, no walks, and just one hit allowed) was the first of three strong bullpen appearances which earned Rabin this week's Ivy League Player of the Week honor.
On the other side of the diamond, NJIT enters the weekend licking its wound after a fifth-consecutive loss drop its record to 16-18. Wednesday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between the Highlanders and Tigers.
Wednesday's game, as well as all remaining Princeton home games and Ivy League away games, will be available to stream with a subscription to ESPN+. Fans can also follow along on Princeton's social media channels—@PUTigerBaseball on Twitter and Instagram—or with live stats.
