Men’s Volleyball Claims Season Sweep of George Mason

PRINCETON, N.J. – With assistance from a .375 hitting percentage, the Princeton University men's volleyball team claimed the season sweep of George Mason University Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium, downing the Patriots 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) and winning its fifth-straight match.
Sophomore Ben Harrington led the way for Princeton, leading the match in kills with 11 on a .714 hitting percentage, and also adding a match-high four service aces. First Year Henry Wedbush led the match in assists with 24, and senior Jerod Nelsen in digs with six. Junior Brady Wedbush was a force defensively, finishing with a match and career-high nine blocks.
Along with hitting .375, Princeton limited the Patriots to a .155 hitting percentage, and recorded eight service aces to GMU's three.
The Tigers opened the match with a 4-0 run, that featured back-to-back service aces by Harrington. Back-to-back Brady Wedbush service aces saw Princeton take a 7-3 lead, then the Tigers extended their lead to seven, 16-9, after a triple block by senior Parker Dixon, Brady Wedbush, and sophomore James Hartley. Princeton would go on to claim the first set, 25-16.
The second set started as a back-and-forth battle, until a Hartley kill sparked a 3-0 run gave the Tigers a 12-9 lead. George Mason battled back to knot the score, 18-18, but a 5-0 run started by a Hartley, Harrington, and Brady Wedbush triple block gave Princeton a 23-19 advantage. From there, the Tigers held on to win the second set, 25-21.
A Dixon kill led off a 4-0 run early in the third set, giving the Tigers a 7-2 advantage following a double block by Henry Wedbush and First Year Nyherowo Omene. Princeton remained in control, taking an 18-9 lead following a Patriot service error, but George Mason showed resolve and went on a 3-0 run, making it an 18-12 contest. The Tigers managed to hold off GMU for the remainder of the set, with a Harrington kill giving Princeton match point at 25-19.
