PRINCETON, N.J. – Ted Everett has been named as the Princeton University Head Diving Coach, as announced by men's & women's swimming & diving Head Coaches Matt Crispino and Bret Lundgaard Thursday.
Everett most recently spent three seasons at the University of Wyoming, where he won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Diving Coach of the Year award in 2022 and the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Diving Coach of the Year Award in 2021.
"We're thrilled to welcome Ted Everett to the Princeton Swimming & Diving family," said Crispino. "Ted clearly demonstrated through the interview process that he is an experienced teacher, a fierce competitor, and a great fit for Princeton. We have no doubt that our divers will benefit from his wealth of experience and knowledge as they continue to pursue academics and athletics at the highest level. Welcome Ted!"
Along with winning WAC Coach of the Year, Everett is coming off a 2021-22 season at Wyoming where he helped Melissa Mirafuentes capture All-America honors on 3-meter and platform, get named MWC Championships Diver of the Meet, win the MWC title on platform, and sent six divers to the NCAA Zone E Championships on all three boards. Everett also had divers named Diver of the Week on six occasions in 2021-22.
At Wyoming, Everett guided divers to All-America honors five times, NCAA Championship qualification four times, NCAA Zone Championship qualification 13 times, Academic All-America honors three times, Diver of the Week honors 13 times, conference championship Diver of the Meet honors three times, conference event Championships three times, had nine conference championship finalists, and helped divers make it onto the all-time top-10 list 12 times.
Everett also had stints at the University of Utah and 1996-2000. The 2000 Mountain West Conference Diving Coach of the Year, he guided the Utes to two conference titles, and coached 16 PAC 12 Finalists, a PAC 12 Newcomer of the Year, plus 13 individual NCAA qualifiers, six NCAA All-Americans, and two Olympic Trials qualifiers. Everett was also the first coach to send two Utah divers to the NCAA Championships in the same year, and trained Utah's first diving All-American.
"This is a very exciting hire for our program and culture," said Lundgaard. "Ted's expertise coupled with his committed support to our student-athletes is something that was critical for us to find. He is committed to "education through athletics" and is excited to help grow our diving program into being nationally competitive for years to come. PUCSDT welcomes Ted and his family to Princeton!"
Along with his work at the college level, Everett has also coached at the Utah Diving Club, which has produced 36 Junior National Qualifiers. Everett has also coached at Rose Bowl Aquatics and SLAP Diving, programs that produced four former athletes that represented the United States at the 2004 Olympics.
"My thanks go out to John Mack, Bret Lundgaard and Matt Crispino for entrusting me with this opportunity to work with the amazing student athletes at Princeton University," said Everett. "Special thanks to my wife and family for their support as we move across the country in this endeavor. I am so excited to be part of the Princeton Swim & Dive family and want to help continue to grow the proud tradition that exists there."
Everett takes over a diving program on the rise; in 2022, Joe Victor became the Tigers' first All-American diver since Kent DeMond in 2006, and four members of the team qualified for the NCAA Championships. Additionally, six Princeton divers competed at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in 2022.
