Defending Ivy Champion Men's Soccer Announces 2022 Schedule

The Princeton Men's Soccer team will return to the pitch -- a new pitch -- this fall as the Tigers will open the new Roberts Stadium as part of the 2022 season.
Last season was a championship run for the Tigers as Princeton went 7-0-0 in Ivy League play for just the second perfect Ivy season in program history. The Tigers went 12-6-0 overall, falling at St. John's in the NCAA Tournament, 1-0.
A pair of United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections from 2021 are set to return for Princeton this season in defender Lucas Gen and midfielder Daniel Diaz-Bonilla.
Gen started all 18 matches at center back last season, also picking up first-team All-Ivy honors. He played 1,469 minutes last season, helping Princeton to the Ivy League's best GAA (0.87) and factoring into seven shutouts. At the other end, he pitched in two goals.
Diaz-Bonilla set career highs in goals (4), assists (6) and points (14) last season as an attacking midfielder. Of his 14 points, nine came in Ivy League play en route to second-team All-Ivy honors.
In addition to Gen and Diaz-Bonilla, Princeton returns All-Ivy honorees Malik Pinto, Issa Mudashiru and Walker Gillespie.
Princeton Men's Soccer 2022 Schedule Notes
- Princeton will take on five NCAA Tournament teams from last season during the 2022 slate -- Loyola (MD), Penn State, St. John's, Vermont, Virginia Tech.
- 50% of Princeton's non-conference schedule (5-of-10) played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
- The 2022 season opens September 2 at Rutgers.
- The 2022 home opener is set for September 5 against Vermont.
- Ivy League play begins October 1 at Dartmouth. The Ivy home opener is scheduled for October 8 against Yale.
- The regular season closes with back-to-back home games against Harvard (November 5) and Penn (November 12).
