Liu Cards 66 On Way to Lead at Princeton Invitational
September 24, 2022 | Women's Golf
Opening Saturday with a tournament-low 66 and finishing the day as the only player to break 70 in both rounds, Princeton sophomore Victoria Liu will take a five-stroke lead into Sunday's final round, set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Live scoring and results are available here.Â
Liu's 66 was a career low for the sophomore, whose rookie season last spring saw her earn Ivy League Rookie of the Year and win the Ivy League Championship while helping the team to the league title as well. Liu's best last season was a 68, and the 66 tied teammate Tiffany Kong for the second-lowest round in program history. Kong's 66 was in the Princeton Invitational a year ago, and the record belongs to Susannah Aboff '09, who shot a 65 during the 2008 Ivy League Championship. Aboff was also the last Tiger to win medalist honors at the Princeton Invitational, in 2007.
Liu's first round Saturday saw five birdies and the rest of the 13 holes at par. On the day, Liu had eight birdies over the 36 holes and just one hole above par, with one bogey.Â
Due to health and safety protocols, Princeton is playing just three individuals, with rookie Catherine Rao tied for 16th overall at +7 in her collegiate debut and junior Caris Kim 42nd at +13.Â
Three players, with Georgetown's Megan Gormley and Gabriella Gilrowski and Yale's Mia Sessa, are tied for second behind Liu, all at -2. Yale leads the team standings at +3, nine shots in front of second-place Harvard.
